  • Overview

    This position is responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll activities for the Company, including but not limited to processing sets of systematic transaction, compiling employee timekeeping information and other payroll related data from Human Resources for effective and timely transmission of payroll records to our third-party payroll vendor.

    Responsibilities

    • Process bi-weekly payroll, off-cycle adjustments, and other authorized payroll transactions.

     

    • Timely analysis of timekeeping data to ensure timely reporting of project time work, time-off, and other related timekeeping transactions that impact payroll. Review and reconcile data between timekeeping and payroll for accurate general ledger (GL) reporting.

     

    • Prepare journal entries and reports for gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions and garnishments/liens.
    • Verify payroll adjustments, retroactive pay, salary projections, refunds, and other pay related matters submitted for processing. Maintains documentation and other related back-up materials within financial folders.
    • May compute hourly employees' time worked, authorized time off, holiday, retro pay adjustments, post wages and deductions, and/or prepare off-cycle checks.
    • Support and coordinate other payroll related payroll requests, including but not limited to adjustments, summaries, deductions, garnishments, child support orders, etc.
    • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal payroll, benefit, wage and hour laws.
    • Establish and maintain effective rapport and relationships with working team members in Finance and HR.
    • Proactively resolve payroll issues and problems to avoid and/or minimize employee concerns.
    • Supports the company in maintaining a work environment focused on quality and that fosters learning, respect, collaboration, integration, and teamwork.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Knowledge and skills required:

    • Must be well versed with ADP’s current Workforce Now.
    • Must have 5+ plus years’ experience with payroll processing.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of basic accounting principles.
    • Requires a good knowledge of common payroll processes, California wage and hour requirements, payroll journal entries, final pay requirements, documentation and auditing expectations.
    • .Must have strong communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving.
    • Must be able to multi-task and willingness to learn new skills.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word.

    Additional knowledge and skills desired, but not required:

    • Associates Degree.
    • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX or other ERP systems preferred.
    • Experience working in a Life Sciences company and fast-paced environment, with ADP Workforce Now or similar systems preferred.
