  • Overview

    Dynavax Technologies Business Development encompasses corporate strategy, business development, new product planning, external relationships and alliance management. This individual will be a key member of the team representing Business Development, and requires a creative and analytical thinker with previous experience in business development and/or alliance management. Scope of the position includes:


    • Support Business Development activities
    • Participate as key member of cross-functional Project Team(s) and/or joint management governance committee
    • Collaborate with Project Management, BD and Project Teams to plan for and achieve Corporate objectives/initiatives


    • Enable Cancer Business Strategy by executing collaboration agreements (i.e.MTA’s, Clinical Collaborations, etc.)
      • Prioritize and secure access to complimentary cancer assets
      • Search, identify and evaluate biopharmaceutical companies with complementary oncology programs: develop and nurture scientific and business relationships
      • Work with internal R&D team to support due diligence processes and initial product development plan development for proposed transactions
      • Develop and maintain competitive cancer landscape through understanding of disease biology, treatment paradigms and new and emerging cancer therapeutics
      • Structuring and negotiating transactions
    • Support Alliance Management
      • Successful integration, alliance management, and governance as contractually specified
      • Promote successful collaborations: leading by influence, identifying significant topics and resolving key issues
      • Specifically drive (as a member) joint management governance bodies to ensure collaboration progress and effective issue resolution
      • Adherence to contractual obligations; manages all issues and conflict proactively to the benefit of the project
      • Deliver value from Collaborations – via financial return, project advancement, or other means
    • Advance HEPLISAV-B ex-US strategy through evaluation and execution of partnership(s)
      • Work with Project Team to establish partnering priorities for ex-US partnerships, including financial analytics, commercial assessment and due diligence
      • Identify and contact perspective companies with potential partnering interest
      • Structuring and negotiating transactions
    • Advance partnering efforts for TLR7/8 programs for infectious disease vaccine adjuvant applications
      • Work with Discovery scientists to establish collaborations with non-cancer TLR7/8 molecules for use as vaccine adjuvants
      • Identify and contact perspective companies with potential partnering interest
      • Structuring and negotiating contracts

    • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent job experience


    • Minimum 5-7 years of related experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry


    • Energetic and self-motivated individual with a strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of business strategy


    • Strong understanding of key functions and their roles throughout stages of product development including Marketing, Medical Affairs, Pre-Clinical/Discovery, Regulatory and Manufacturing (Clinical and Commercial Supply)


    • Experience managing external collaborations or relationships


    • Proven ability to effectively work with project teams in a matrix environment


    • Excellent communication skills


    • Additional desired experience: creation of Excel-based forecasts and NPV models, highly organized with excellent follow-up abilities, ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
