  • Overview

    To provide support and expertise in developing effective clinical contractual agreements, budgets, proposals and actively manage clinical contractual obligations.  Develop and cultivate operationally excellent internal client and vendor relationships to enable advancement of clinical development programs. 

    Responsibilities

    • Manages contract activities for multiple clinical development programs, completing site and vendor contracts accurately, consistently, and in a timely manner, including the transition of certain activities from Dynavax to Clinical Research Organizations (CRO) and management of associated CRO activities.
    • Works with internal customers in vendor bidding and proposal development (RFP creation and analysis) as well as running vendor bid defense meetings.
    • With the support of Legal, manages the contract negotiation process, especially in more complex, or high value contracts.
    • Demonstrates strong understanding of regulatory and legal issues pertinent to clinical development.
    • Provides information to Senior Management on contract and finance issues.
    • Identifies and provides Fair Market Value limits and assessments.
    • Supports the day-to-day activities of multiple areas in complex clinical contracting processes.
    • Support the Senior Manager, Clinical Contracts and Budgets in developing departmental and cross-functional policies, procedures and process improvements as appropriate.
    • Assist with the identification and implementation of clinical contracts systems or processes.
    • Assist Quality Assurance with audits of contract and sourcing records to ensure accuracy and completeness.
    • Assist with other projects as needed.

    Qualifications

    • College degree required.
    • More than seven years of experience in clinical contracts/budget administration, accounting/finance, and/or clinical project/operations.
    • Experience with industry benchmarking software (e.g., Grant Plan or Grants Manager, ClearTrial or equivalent).
    • Highly proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, sufficient to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
    • Good business judgment and a strong understanding of the unique aspects of clinical financial.
    • Must demonstrate an understanding of clinical site and vendor budgets and payment terms.
    • Must have the ability to interact with research and development functions, clinical teams, corporate finance, and IT, to provide oversight of clinical payment management activities.
    • Proven success in completing assignments, tasks and projects under minimal supervision as well as demonstrated ability to make critical recommendations related to clinical financial management.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
